Introduced in the late 1990s as the cornerstone of Martin’s Road Series, the DM (Dreadnought Mahogany) was engineered with a singular purpose: to provide working musicians with a genuine, Nazareth-built acoustic powerhouse without the premium price tag. Highly regarded for its rugged reliability and massive acoustic output, the DM has earned a reputation as one of the best-value traditional dreadnoughts Martin has ever produced.
The DM features a solid Sitka Spruce top paired with premium 3-ply laminated Mahogany back and sides. By combining a solid, highly resonant soundboard with ultra-stable laminated rims, Martin created a guitar that behaves like an old vintage instrument, while remaining highly responsive to player dynamics. Finished in a breathable, low-mass satin lacquer, the body vibrates freely to deliver that classic, room-filling Martin "boom".
True to its utilitarian ethos, the DM boasts clean, elegant lines. It is accented by a black body binding, a multi-ring herringbone-pattern rosette, and a vibrant faux-tortoiseshell pickguard.
As seen in the photos, this 2006 example is in superb, clean condition. The satin finish has aged flawlessly and uniformly over the last two decades, showing only the lightest signs of handling and minor surface pick wear on the guard, with absolutely no cracks or structural issues. The neck is straight, the bridge is secure, and the frets remain in excellent shape.
