Introduced in 1965, the Martin D-35 quickly carved out its own legendary status alongside the D-28, becoming a favorite among folk icons like Johnny Cash and modern singer-songwriters alike. Renowned for its distinct design and incredibly lush acoustic properties, the D-35 is widely regarded as one of the most expressive dreadnoughts to ever come out of Nazareth, Pennsylvania.
What makes the D-35 truly unique is its striking 3-piece East Indian Rosewood back and its internal bracing structure.Unlike the heavier 5/16" bracing found on the standard D-28, the D-35 utilizes lighter 1/4" top bracing. This allows the solid Sitka Spruce top to vibrate more freely, yielding a massive, thunderous bass response and a scooped midrange. Over thirty years of natural aging have worked wonders on this 1993 model, giving it a beautifully played-in warmth and an open, harmonically rich resonance.
True to its premium tier, the D-35 is elegantly appointed with full multi-ply binding on the body and a fully bound Ebony fingerboard. The comfortable mahogany neck features a traditional low-profile feel with a 1 11/16" nut width, making it exceptionally smooth to navigate for both rhythm strumming and flatpicking. It features its original high-quality closed-gear tuners and a classic black pickguard that anchors its timeless acoustic look.
As seen in the photos, this 1993 model is in excellent condition. The gloss nitrocellulose lacquer has settled beautifully over the decades, showing only light, honest play wear, faint pick marks near the soundhole, and minor surface scratches from careful use. Structurally, the guitar is flawless, with a healthy neck angle, a secure bridge, and plenty of saddle height left for future adjustments.
