While Hondo is often remembered for their entry-level bolt-on models of the 1970s, the turn of the decade marked a serious step up in production quality. Introduced as part of their upper-tier offerings, the HL-5F - affectionately known as the "Fatboy", was Hondo's ambitious take on the legendary Gibson L-5. This 1981 example in a striking blonde Natural finish is a fantastic testament to that era, offering a proper, full-sized archtop experience with plenty of vintage charm.
Living up to its "Fatboy" moniker, the HL-5F features a deep, full-hollow body constructed with a beautifully figured maple top, back, and sides.
The guitar comes equipped with a pair of humbuckers, serving up everything from smoky, rolled-off neck jazz tones to a snappy, articulate bite in the bridge position.
This 1981 model is in very good condition, It shows honest signs of use, including some light surface scratches and play wear.
This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 1 year warranty.
