The Gibson SG Special had firmly established itself by the late 1960s as a stripped back, player focused model within the range. This 1969 example reflects the straightforward design the SG Special is known for, with its slim double cutaway mahogany body and fast playing neck profile that defined the era.
This particular guitar has undergone a number of changes over the years. It has been fully resprayed, and the pickups have been rewound. At some point it was routed for a humbucker beneath the pickguard, though it is currently configured in keeping with the Special layout. The original vibrato has been removed, and it is now fitted with a newer bridge, newer tuners, and replacement knobs.
The pots date to the second week of 1969 and despite the modifications, it remains a solid late 60s SG Special with the lively feel and direct response these guitars are appreciated for.
