The Rickenbacker 300 series became one of the defining electric guitar designs of the 1960s, closely associated with the sound of bands such as The Beatles, The Who and The Byrds. The model 345 formed part of this range, featuring three pickups and factory vibrato, with the Rose Morris Model 1998 representing the export version distributed in Europe.
Introduced as part of the 300 series in 1958, these guitars feature a 15 1/4 inch wide semi acoustic body. By 1961 the body depth had been reduced to approximately 1 1/2 inches while retaining the square edged outline. The five knob control layout was adopted in 1963. The model 345 specification includes three pickups and vibrato, while the Rose Morris Model 1998 variant is distinguished by its F hole design in place of the standard cat eye sound holes, manufactured specifically for Rose Morris Music who were the European importer for Rickenbacker at the time.
This 1967 Rickenbacker 345 Rose Morris Model 1998 is finished in Fireglo, a standard finish for the period. It features dot fingerboard inlays, back binding, an adjustable bridge and the typical five knob control configuration. The guitar has sustained significant heel trauma in the past which is visible, though it has been professionally repaired and is structurally sound. Otherwise it is internally and externally original, with readable pot codes dating to late 1966.
The guitar includes its original case along with an original Rickenbacker padded strap.
