Often overlooked when compared with equivalent instruments from Gibson or Martin, vintage Levin mandolins offer impressive craftsmanship and tonal character, representing excellent value on the vintage market. Founded in Gothenburg in 1900, Levin became one of Scandinavia’s most respected builders, producing a wide range of fretted instruments throughout the early 20th century.

This 1930s Levin Model 400 mandolin is a charming and responsive 8 string flat back design, delivering a warm, clear voice with a nicely balanced response. It features a Spruce top with ladder bracing, paired with Maple back and sides, giving it a focused tone with good projection and articulation, well suited to folk styles and light ensemble playing. The body measures approximately 255 mm across, offering a comfortable and compact feel.

Appointments include a single bound top with an unbound back, a rosewood fingerboard with single binding and mother of pearl dot inlays, and an unbound headstock. A black pickguard and nickel plated tuners complete the understated aesthetic, all finished in a classic sunburst.

This guitar is in very good condition, with the kind of wear to the finish that you would expect from a vintage instrument of its age. As with all our instruments, this guitar has been subject to a full service from the Vintage Instrument Workshop and as such benefits from our 1 year warranty.
