A superb example from the early years of Gibson mandolin production, this 1911 F 4 displays many of the defining features that established the model as one of Gibson’s most celebrated designs. It is built with a carved spruce top with the original finish having been removed, although it appears to have previously been and orange finished variation. The oval soundhole is bound and framed by the characteristic double rope style wood inlays.
The scroll peghead is decorated with the ornate double flowerpot inlay alongside “The Gibson” logo, finished with ivoroid binding and original inlaid tuner buttons. Over the years the mandolin has received some professional maintenance to ensure it continues to play well. There has been a repair to the neck heel as can be seen in the photos, along with a repair to the headstock scroll. The tuner buttons have been replaced, as has the original tailpiece, although the tailpiece cover is correct. It is supplied with a later hard case.
The instrument has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
