First introduced in 1942, the J-45 is affectionately known as 'The Workhorse' a name earned over eight decades as the most played, recorded, and relied-upon acoustic guitar in popular music history. From Bob Dylan and John Lennon to modern acoustic performers, the J-45 remains the industry blueprint for a slope-shoulder dreadnought. This 2017 Standard model from Gibson’s famous Bozeman, Montana factory is a prime example of why this design continues to dominate stages and studios worldwide.
Built to traditional full-depth specifications, this J-45 features a solid Sitka Spruce top paired with solid Mahogany back and sides. Hand-braced with hand-scalloped X-bracing, the body projects a warm, woody acoustic voice with a tight, punchy bass response and a mellow, compressed midrange. Coupled with a classic 24.75" short scale length, it reduces string tension for an exceptionally slinky playing feel, while producing a balanced frequency response.
Finished in Gibson’s iconic, deep Vintage Sunburst nitrocellulose lacquer, this J-45 is appointed with traditional multi-ply top binding, a teardrop tortoiseshell pickguard, and a traditional rosewood belly-up bridge with a bone saddle. It comes factory-fitted with an LR Baggs Element VTC under-saddle pickup system, complete with discreet soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls.
As seen in the photos, this 2017 example is in brilliant, clean condition, and includes its original hard shell case.
