This is a particularly unusual Gibson Custom Shop Explorer, based on the 1958 Korina specification but with one very obvious and rather strange modification: the lower half of the body has been cut away. The design is based on the modified Explorer associated with Eric Clapton, and gives the normally large and angular Explorer an even more distinctive appearance.
Built as a limited production model, it follows the 1958 reissue specification with a Korina style construction, Custombucker pickups, Bumblebee style capacitors and Grover tuners. The VOS treatment gives the finish and hardware a lightly aged appearance, rather than making the guitar look completely new, while retaining the feel of a historic reissue. Gibson's 1958 Explorer reissues use the original model as their reference, with Korina construction and vintage style appointments.
This guitar is internally and externally original and is in excellent condition. It is supplied with its original case. Given the unusual body modification and limited production, this is a very different proposition from a standard Explorer and one of the more unusual modern Gibson models we've had through the shop.
