Introduced in 1962, the Gibson Dove was one of the company's most distinctive square shouldered dreadnought designs, developed as a more ornate counterpart to the popular Hummingbird. With its engraved pickguard, decorative appointments and powerful acoustic voice, the Dove quickly became associated with some of Gibson's most recognisable acoustic instruments of the 1960s. Early examples from this period are particularly notable for their use of Tune-O-Matic style bridges, a unique feature of Gibson acoustic production during the era, offering a distinctive look and a slightly different tonal response compared to the more traditional fixed saddle designs.

This 2010 Gibson Custom Shop Limited Edition 1960s Dove faithfully recreates the character and styling of these early instruments, finished in Vintage Cherry Sunburst and built with the classic square shouldered dreadnought body shape. The combination of a solid spruce top and maple back and sides delivers the bold, articulate tone associated with the Dove, with plenty of projection, clarity and low end response. This guitar has also received a number of modifications to enhance its playability and performance, including the installation of an L.R. Baggs Lyric acoustic microphone system.

The guitar has previously undergone professional repair work to address a small crack measuring less than 4.5 cm near the shoulder on the body side of the sixth string. This was sympathetically reinforced using a thin maple veneer inserted into the affected area to provide additional stability and prevent further movement. Additional modifications include replacement brass bridge pins, and the addition of a strap button to the neck heel.

This guitar is in excellent condition, and bar the repair previously mentioned, shows very little play wear. It includes its original case and paperwork.

This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
