To collectors and bass aficionados, the letters "JV" hold superior status. Standing for "Japanese Vintage," the JV series represents the very first production run of Fender-licensed instruments crafted at the legendary FujiGen Gakki factory in Japan from 1982 to 1984. Built using original pre-CBS factory tooling and strict vintage-correct specifications, these early '82 models caused an absolute sensation upon release. Delivering a level of craftsmanship, tone, and vintage feel that famously rivaled original pre-CBS Fenders.
This 1982 '62 Reissue Precision Bass is a fine example from that historic first year of JV production. Finished in a classic 3-Tone Sunburst over a highly resonant Alder body. Powering the instrument is its original split-coil Precision pickup, serving up that legendary pre-CBS low-end authority: a warm, pillowy bass response with a punchy, mid-range growl that sits effortlessly in any band mix.
The Maple neck is carved to a traditional, slim early-60s "C" profile with a wide 42mm nut width that feels instantly comfortable in the hand. It is capped with a dark, beautifully grained Rosewood fingerboard featuring vintage dot inlays and a 7.25" radius. The headstock features the correct early "Squier Precision Bass" logo with the small "by Fender" script.
As seen in the photos, this 1982 JV bass carries an unbeatable, authentic vintage mojo. Having been played and loved for over 44 years, it displays honest, road-worn character—highlighted by light edge nicks, finish checking, and a fantastic patch of natural belt-buckle wear on the back where the sunburst has worn down to the bare wood. The frets have plenty of life left, the neck is straight, and the hardware has developed a lovely, subtle patina.
