First introduced in 1931, the Martin D-28 is the undisputed blueprint for the modern acoustic guitar. From Hank Williams and Elvis Presley to Johnny Cash and Jimmy Page, the D-28 has driven the sound of popular music for nearly a century. This 1979 example is an exceptional vintage example, offering the iconic look, projection, and deep, dry maturity that only a 47-year-old piece of Nazareth craftsmanship can deliver.

This D-28 is constructed from the classic ingredients that defined acoustic history: a solid Sitka Spruce top paired with premium solid East Indian Rosewood for the back and sides. Over nearly five decades of natural aging, the lacquer on the top has ambered into a stunning, deep golden honey tone, and the wood has completely dried out. This gives the guitar an incredibly open, authoritative voice. It possesses the legendary D-28 "boom", a tight low-end, a focused midrange, and clear, piano-like trebles that cut straight through any ensemble.

True to its late-70s legacy, this model features traditional multi-ply top binding, a clean black pickguard, a chain-link backstrip, and its original Martin-branded closed-gear chrome tuners. The Mahogany neck features a traditional, comfortable full "C" profile with a classic diamond volute, paired with a dark, premium Ebony fingerboard and bridge.

As seen in the photos, this 1979 model is in beautiful vintage condition. It has been incredibly well-preserved over the years, showing only light, honest play wear, minor surface scuffs, and a small cosmetic nick on the upper bass side of the back, all of which lend it a fantastic, authentic vintage character. Structurally, the guitar is rock solid with a straight neck, excellent fret life, and a completely stable bridge setup.

This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
