Introduced in 1971 as a streamlined addition to Fender's short-scale family, the Musicmaster Bass has evolved from its student-model origins into a highly coveted vintage instrument. Celebrated by modern indie, alternative, and studio bassists alike, these compact thumping machines are prized for their unique percussive voice, lightweight handling, and effortless playability.

This 1978 example features a wonderfully resonant body finished in a classic Olympic White that has aged over nearly five decades into a rich, creamy vintage hue. It is accented by a three-ply black pickguard, a treble-side thumb rest, and the distinctive late-70s black "Strat" style volume and tone knobs.

The real joy of the Musicmaster is its scale length. The comfortable 30" short-scale Maple neck drastically reduces string tension, offering a incredibly "slinky" playing feel that makes complex bass lines effortless.

As seen in the photos, this 1978 model is a beautiful, honest vintage example. The finish shows typical signs of ageing, including light handling wear, small dings, and surface marks that add immensely to its authentic, road-ready mojo. The neck finish has ambered beautifully, the frets have plenty of life left, and the hardware functions perfectly.

This guitars retains its original (and rare!) Fender 'student' hard case.

This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
