Introduced in 1960, the Gibson Hummingbird quickly established itself as one of the company's most recognisable acoustic guitars, pairing distinctive square shouldered styling with a versatile spruce and mahogany construction. This 1976 example is remarkably clean for its age and has a lovely big sound, making it a particularly satisfying guitar for strumming and accompanying vocals.
As with many Gibson acoustics from the '70s, the neck has a slimmer profile than earlier examples, giving it a comfortable, easy playing feel. Tonally, this one has a warmer, fuller bass response than you might expect from the heavier built Gibson acoustics of the period, with plenty of body and presence without losing the clarity that makes a Hummingbird such a good all rounder.
The guitar has been well looked after and has had some work carried out to keep it playing as it should, including a refret. There is some lacquer checking to the top and a previously repaired crack near the pickguard, where the neck meets it. We also suspect the bridge has previously been removed, shaved and refitted. Otherwise, it remains in great condition for its age and is supplied with its original case.
This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
