1974 Rickenbacker 4001

Rightly credited with some of the most important developments in guitar building, Rickenbacker's place in music history is undeniably as influential as any of the other USA based manufactueres. Although not as prominent in terms of reputation when compared to companies like Fender and Gibson, Rickenbacker have produced some the most recognisable instruments of the 20th century. The Rickenbacker 4001 bass is one such instrument, designed by Roger Rossmeisl and introduced in 1961. As the companies flagship bass throughout the '60s and '70s, it has been used by everyone from Paul McCartney to Geezer Butler to Rick James. 

This 1974 Rickenbacker 4001 is an exceptional example from the mid '70s, when the model was at the height of its popularity. Constructed from a bound Maple body with a Maple neck through design, this bass is finished in the lesser seen Burgundyglo Rickenbacker colour option. The body is fitted with a pair of 'Toaster' pickups that pack plenty of punchy, warm tone that is perfect for a huge range of playing styles. The lacquered Rosewood neck has a low profile neck that is comfortable to play, and is finished with the shark fin pearloid fret inlays only found on these models, along with the Rick-O-Sound stereo jack output.

This guitar is in excellent condition, with barely any play wear to the finish for a guitar of its age, and complete with its original case. It is all original with the exception of a replacement bridge, although the original bridge is included in the case along with the original warranty card and polish cloth. This guitar has been given a full service and appraisal by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty.
