The Gibson Les Paul Custom has represented the pinnacle of the company’s solid body line since its introduction in 1954. This 1973 Les Paul Custom in Cherry Sunburst is a superb example from the early 1970s, finished in a vibrant burst that highlights a particularly figured maple top and sets it apart from the more commonly seen black examples of the period.
Constructed with the typical mahogany / maple / mahogany pancake body, this guitar pairs a mahogany neck with an ebony fingerboard, complete with block inlays and the split diamond peghead inlay that define the Custom model. The gold hardware remains in keeping with the style of the era, showcasing plenty of patina, and this example also features embossed Gibson pickup covers more often associated with 1972 production year, adding an interesting transitional detail.
There is plenty of honest, characterful play wear across the instrument, giving it the feel of a truly well loved and well used vintage guitar. It is fitted with a set of aged reproduction witch hat knobs, and has been professionally refretted by our in house luthiers to ensure excellent playability. Otherwise it is internally and externally original, and includes a later period hard case.
As with all our instruments, this guitar has been given a full service and appraisal by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
