Introduced in 1961, the Gibson Barney Kessel Signature archtop didn't follow in the footsteps of the sleek design of other ES models of the period, instead sporting an vibrant Cherry Sunburst finish and full depth 17" wide body with double pointed cutaways. While not subtle looking instruments, they have gained a following for their unmatched warm, jazzy sound.
This model from 1969 is a wonderful example of a Custom variation of the model, with the bowtie fretboard inlay, musical note headstock inlay and gold hardware found on these custom models. This guitar is in excellent shape, with some lacquer checking but very little play wear to speak of, other than small areas to the rear of the neck. The original electronics are present and correct, with a sweet sounding pair of Patent No. pickups providing plenty of warmth and clarity. The original Kluson tuners, bridge and all other hardware are as they should be, including the original trapeze tailpiece with Barney Kessel wooden insert. The enclosed pots appear original, and as such do not display external date codes.
This guitar also includes its original case.
As with all our instruments, this guitar has been given a full service and appraisal by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty.
