Gretsch guitars have always been renowned for their unique tone and style, and this 1966 Gretsch 6119 Chet Atkins Tennessean is a great example of a first generation Tennessean model in excellent condition.

Featuring a laminate maple body with dual FilterTron pickups, this guitar is finished in a Walnut Stain lacquer that has faded nicely over the years, and features the painted 'F' holes synonymous with this version of the model. The Chet Atkins Tennessean was conceived as a deep body, single pickup configuration for the first two production years between 1958 and 1960, before the guitar took on the more common double pickup, thinline hollowbody style that would pervade throughout the '60s, most notably seen in the hands of George Harrison at The Beatles first Shea Stadium concert. The neck features a rosewood board and thumbprint fretboard inlays, and the body features a factory fitted Gretsch branded 'V' cut Bigsby Vibrato. The HiLo-Tron pickups have that classic Gretsch shimmer and jangle, and pair with the myriad tone control options used by Gretsch at the time, with this Tennessean featuring master volume, tone and volume controls, a pickup selector and tone switch, along with a standby switch.

This guitar is in good condition, with only some minor signs of cosmetic wear to the finish. Surprisingly for a Gretsch from this period, there appears to have been no areas of replaced binding. This guitar is internally and externally original with the exception of replacement tone capacitors, and a later set of Grover tuners, with evidence of holes for the original tuners having been filled. Otherwise, the wiring loom is intact and as it should be, with the original pots dating to the 21st week of 1965. This guitar also includes its original Gretsch hard case.
