Like Silvertone & Harmony guitars of the 1950s and ’60s, Danelectro guitars have gained the kind of cult status that still sees them as a go to for players looking for a truly unique tone, with mid century styling that is pure Americana.
This 1964 Danelectro Bellzouki is one of the more unusual instruments to emerge from the company’s Neptune, New Jersey factory. Developed in collaboration with session musician Vincent Bell, the Bellzouki was Danelectro’s electric take on the traditional bouzouki, combining its distinctive extended scale and tuning with the company’s unmistakable Masonite construction. The body is fitted with Danelectro’s traditional lipstick pickup design, while the neck features a rosewood fingerboard and the distinctive flared “duckfoot” headstock shared with other unusual Danelectro models of the period.
This guitar is in great cosmetic condition for its age, with only minor signs of play wear and natural ageing. It remains all original, with readable potentiometer codes dating to the 40th week of 1964, and is supplied with a non original case.
