First introduced in 1956 alongside the single pickup Musicmaster model, the Fender Duo Sonic was the companies designated twin pickup student guitar, with a shorter 22 1/2" scale length and stripped back design. The shorter scale design and unique pickup configuration has made the Duo Sonic a popular choice over the years, and a relatively affordable entry point in to vintage guitars from Fender's golden era.
This 1963 Duo Sonic is a fantastic example of the first variation of the model, before changes in 1964 would bring it more inline with the Mustang. This guitar features a slab Alder body and maple neck with Rosewood fingerboard. The neck date is June '63 with an 'A' stamp indicating it has a narrower that standard nut width that is particularly comfortable to play. The original pots dating to the 50th week of '63 and the black bottom pickups are original to the guitar, although the bridge pickup has been rewound and fitted with a replacement pickup cover. The white pickguard, threaded saddle top loading bridge and all other hardware are also original and in great condition.
The original 'maroonburst' finish shows plenty of lacquer checking and play wear around the lower edge, but is in generally very good condition.
As with all vintage instruments, this 1963 Fender Duo Sonic has been given a full service and appraisal by the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty.
