Introduced in 1960 as Fender’s top of the line bass mode, the Jazz Bass quickly became a mainstay of studio and live performance. Its dual single-coil pickup layout and slimmer nut width offer greater tonal range and a more comfortable playing feel than earlier electric bass designs.
This 1962 Fender Jazz Bass is a great player grade example, with a professional refinish in a period correct sunburst courtesy of Clive Brown, and a newer custom made slab board neck. The lightweight alder body features the kind of checking and gentle patina you would expect to see on a well cared for original vintage finish. The maple neck is fitted with an unbound slab rosewood fingerboard and pearl dot inlays, more consistent with post '64 spec Jazz bass necks.
The original pickups deliver the articulate, punchy tone expected from an early Jazz Bass. The electronics remain original, with the pots dating to the 12th week of 1962 and the correct capacitor is present. The original tortoiseshell pickguard retains strong colour, with some edge warping as commonly seen. All remaining hardware is original. This bass also features a period correct brown tolex hard case.
