The Gibson Melody Maker has always traditionally been the Gibson student instrument of choice, competing with the Musicmaster and Duo Sonic to be the first electric guitar of choice for budding players in the the 1950's and 60's. This 1959 Gibson Melody Maker is a great example of a rare 3/4 sized model, not seen anywhere near as often as their full sized counterparts. This guitar features the single cutaway body shape associated with Les Paul models throughout the '50s, before the model moved to the double cutaway design in 1961. The neck joins the body at the 12th fret, making it particularly comfortable to play. The original single coil pickup sounds great and gives you a completely different sound to any other Gibson guitar available at the time, with fuller, brighter tone much more akin to that of a fat sounding vintage Fender single coil.
This guitar is in very good condition, with the kind of play wear and patina you would expect to see from an instrument of its age. This guitar is internally and externally original with the exception of later '60s reflector knobs and a minor repair to the neck heel.
As with all our vintage instrument, this guitar has been given a full service and set up by the Vintage Instrument Workshop and includes our 3 year warranty.
