Introduced in 1952, the Gibson Les Paul Standard has been arguably the most recognisable guitar in the history of recorded music. Spawning countless model variations, and used by a plethora of artists across an equally diverse range of genres, the Les Paul has been the go-to electric guitar for the best part of 75 years for good reason. The earliest Les Paul Standard 'Gold Top' models are particularly sought after by players and collectors, with a tone, feel and style that is unmatched. This 1954 Gibson Les Paul Standard is a fantastic example of a solid body Gibson guitar from this period.

Featuring a slab Mahogany body finished in a Gold lacquer that has aged aged and checked nicely over the years, this guitar is in very good condition with just the right amount of wear and patina to the finish, although it has sustained some changes over the years. The neck features a chunky, rounded early '50s Gibson profile, which is comfortable to play with plenty of wood to dig in to. By 1954 the trapeze tailpiece used for the first 2 years of Les Paul Standard production had been replaced with a wrap around stop bar tailpiece, which when paired with an increased neck set angle introduced simultaneously, allowed for greater stability and improved playability.

The original soapbar P90 pickups are mellow and full, with some serious bite when you dig in with a pick. At some point, the pickup routes appear to have had mini humbucker mounting plates installed. The original pots have been replaced with later DiMarzio equivalents, with the original grey tiger capacitors present and correct. All tuners are original to the guitar except for the B string, which is a later single line Kluson, although all inserts are newer. This guitar has also benefited from a refret and a new nut.

Other than these changes, this guitar is internally and externally original, and includes its original Lifton case.

This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty.
