Much like Fender, Rickenbacker are another company with a rich heritage in lapsteel instruments, and were the first company to successfully mass produce lapsteel guitars for a growing market, with many of the design elements carried on in to their electric guitar production. This 1953 Rickenbacker J-6 is a great example of a student Rickenbacker lapsteel from the start of F.C Halls ownership of the company. Although initially launched by Adolph Rickenbacker in 1953, it didn't make its way in to a catalog until 1957, it features a resonant folded steel hollowbody design with a wooden back, giving it a particular resonance both amplified and unplugged. Fitted with the renowned horseshoe pickup, the sound is clear and defined, with this particular lapsteel having a warmer sound than others we have played. This lapsteel also features the metal plate headstock logo as opposed to the decal found on other models.
This lapsteel has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty. This lapsteel is in very good all original condition and includes its original case.
