The Gibson LG 2 was introduced in 1942 and remained in production throughout World War II, at a time when material shortages and wartime restrictions shaped many aspects of Gibson’s output. This 1944 example is a banner era instrument, carrying the “Only a Gibson is Good Enough” headstock logo that has become synonymous with the period.

Built with a mahogany top, back and sides, the LG 2 delivers the warm, woody response associated with wartime Gibsons. The lightly built body and scalloped X bracing produce an open, immediate tone with strong midrange character and excellent responsiveness. This example is fitted with a sweet gum fingerboard, a feature commonly seen during wartime production when traditional materials were less readily available. The neck retains the comfortable rounded profile typical of mid 1940s production, offering a familiar and approachable playing feel.

As expected from a guitar of this age, it has seen repair and maintenance over its lifetime. There have been previously repaired cracks to the top and back. The back has been stripped, there is lacquer damage to the bass side waist, and the original pickguard has deteriorated substantially. The tuners are non original replacements.

This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
