By 1941, the Gibson L-0 had evolved into a refined and highly practical small body flat top, closely related to the L-00 but distinguished by its finish and appointments. This 1941 Gibson L-0, finished in black with a fire-striped tortoiseshell pick guard, represents one of the final pre war iterations of the model.
The guitar features a 14.75" wide body with a spruce top finished in black, paired with mahogany back and sides. The 14-fret neck and 24.75" scale length offer a familiar, comfortable playing feel, while the lightly built body delivers a focused, articulate response with a dry, woody character well suited to blues, folk and fingerstyle playing.
Appointments include binding to both the top and back, a fire-striped tortoiseshell pick guard, rectangular bridge and an unbound fingerboard with dot inlays. The mahogany neck has a comfortable 'V' profile typical of the era, and the headstock is fitted with original 3 on-a-plate openn back tuners.
This L-0 shows the honest wear and patina expected of a well played vintage instrument. There are two repaired cracks on the bass and treble side of the waist of the guitar body, with the crack on the treble side having had a small amount of lacquer touch up.
As with all our instruments, this guitar has been given a full service and appraisal by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
