Introduced in 1933 as a showcase model for Gibson at the Chicago 'Century of Progress' Worlds' Fair, the Gibson L-C Century of progress is still one of the most luxurious instruments produced by the company. This 1935 Gibson L-C Century Of Progress is a fantastic example of one of the most sought after pre-war Gibson flat top guitars.
Constructed around the design of Gibsons L-00 model, the L-C Century of Progress featured a number of upgrades. The solid Sitka Spruce top is paired with highly figured Maple back and sides, as opposed to the usual Mahogany, which adds a great deal of clarity and detail to what is usual a more bluesy, rootsy sounding instrument. The bracing also contributes a great deal, with the L-C models utilising a particularly lightweight X bracing pattern, even for guitars from this period. The Mahogany neck has a comfortable 'V' style neck profile, and is finished with the fully pearloid fretboard and headstock that makes these models so recognisable and sought after. The peg head features a rosewood inlay with pearl diamond and script logo, while the neck features rosewood block inlays with pearl diamond detail.
There have been some repairs to this L-C Century Of Progress to ensure it continues to play and sound as good as it does for many years to come, all carried out by our in house luthier. The neck has been reset to ensure excellent playability, and the underside of the top has been fitted with a new, period correct bridge plate. The two smaller finger braces on the underside of the top have also been reglued. The original open gear tuners and tiger stripe guard are present and correct, and in great condition.
This guitar has had a full service from our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop. This guitar has clearly been well played over its life, with the kind of play wear, patina and lacquer checking you would expect to see from a near 100 year old instrument.
This guitar also includes a 3 year warranty.
