Gibson’s roots lie in mandolin design, with Orville Gibson’s carved-top innovations forming the foundation for the company’s later acoustic and electric instruments. Introduced in the early 1900s, the F-style mandolin quickly became one of Gibson’s flagship models, setting a new standard with its carved top and flat back construction.

This 1907 Gibson F-2 is an early example of that design, featuring a black-stained carved top, likely walnut back and sides, and the distinctive three-point scroll body shape. It’s fitted with ‘The Gibson’ inlaid headstock, an engraved pineapple tailpiece, inlaid Handel tuners, and an early inlaid tortoiseshell pickguard -used before the elevated pickguards became standard.

This mandolin has had some work over the years to keep it playing as it should, with both a neck reset and repair to the headstock scroll visible. Otherwise, it is internally and externally original and free from any further repair work. This mandolin also includes a later period hard case.

The instrument has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
