Step into the world of classic ‘60s tape echo with the Strymon EC-1 Single Head dTape Echo, a meticulously crafted pedal that captures the harmonic richness of tube-driven tape echo and the organic, ethereal modulation of vintage machines. From warm slapback to expansive echo feedback beds, the EC-1 delivers a stunning stereo image with lush tape saturation, beautifully tuned low-frequency response, and sublime echo decay.
Inspired by a rare, Cesar Diaz modified Echoplex EP-2, the EC-1 features two selectable tube-modeled preamp voices. Choose the classic EP-2 preamp for a bright, high-end shelf perfect for humbuckers, or opt for the warm, balanced response of the modded EP-2 preamp, ideal for adding heft to single-coils. Both preamps offer an optional +6dB boost or can be bypassed for a clean, unprocessed signal.
Powered by dTape technology, the EC-1 replicates every nuance of vintage tape echo, including motor fluctuations, capstan slippage, and tape condition. The Record Level toggle lets you dial in clean, slightly saturated, or heavily saturated repeats, while the Mechanics control adds organic wow, flutter, and stereo modulation for three-dimensional soundscapes. The Tape Age knob adjusts the warmth of repeats, from fresh tape clarity to the mellow tones of aged tape.
With tap tempo, MIDI control, and expression pedal capability, the EC-1 is as versatile as it is inspiring. Built with premium components and rugged construction, it’s designed for both studio and stage.
