The Martin HD-35 carries a long standing reputation as one of the most distinctive spruce and rosewood dreadnoughts in Martin’s lineup, prized for its rich low end and wide open response. Often associated with players across folk, rock and singer songwriter styles, the HD-35 offers a slightly different voice to the D-28 while retaining the same unmistakable Martin character. This 2023 example represents a modern take on that classic formula, combining traditional styling with contemporary playability.
It features a solid Sitka spruce top paired with East Indian rosewood back and sides, including the HD-35’s signature three piece rosewood back. The top is supported by scalloped X bracing, giving the guitar excellent resonance, strong bass response and plenty of headroom. The neck has Martin’s comfortable low oval profile, making it easy to play across long sessions without feeling overly slim. Additional appointments include herringbone top trim, an ebony fingerboard and bridge, and a classic tortoiseshell style pickguard, rounding out a beautifully balanced and versatile dreadnought acoustic.
