Inspired by legendary guitar player Merle Travis, this Martin D-28 pays homage to the early days of electric guitar by joining forces with the Gretsch company to create a unique hybrid instrument. This 2018 Martin D-28 Bigsby combines the classic acoustic tone of a Rosewood D-28 dreadnought with a headstock design from the early Bigsby manufactured electric solid body guitars, used most recognisably by country star Merle Travis. Featuring a Sitka Spruce top with East Indian Rosewood back & sides, the top is braced with scalloped forward shifted X bracing, making it extremely resonant with a real dynamic range. The Maple neck adds a brightness and sustain to the sound of the instrument, setting it apart from regular production D-28 instruments, as well as the signature Bigsby headstock with pearl inlaid logo. These guitars were released as a limited edition run, with each one being signed and numbered on the label by Chris Martin IV and Fred Gretsch.
As with all our instruments, this guitar has been given a full service and appraisal by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty.
