The Eric Clapton Signature 000-28 EC is one of the most popular artist models produced by C. F. Martin & Co., combining the company’s traditional craftsmanship with specifications inspired by Clapton’s preferred acoustic guitars. This 2008 example is a beautifully built instrument that delivers the balanced tone and comfortable feel the model is known for.
The guitar is constructed with a solid Sitka spruce top and solid East Indian rosewood back and sides, a classic combination that provides strong projection, clear trebles and a warm, supportive low end. The shorter 24.9" scale length and modified V shaped neck profile offer a comfortable playing experience, particularly suited to fingerstyle playing and detailed chord work.
An ebony fingerboard and bridge help deliver excellent sustain and clarity, while vintage style open gear tuners and a tortoiseshell pickguard maintain the model’s traditional appearance. Herringbone top trim and the zig zag backstrip are classic Martin details that reflect the company’s long standing attention to craftsmanship.
Other features include Eric Clapton’s inlaid signature at the 20th fret and the distinctive rosette design found on this model. This particular guitar has also been fitted with an aftermarket Carlos Juan CP-1 “Eric” handmade pickup system, providing an incredibly high quality option for amplifying the instrument, while retaining the guitar’s natural acoustic character.
This guitar is in very good condition, with some fairly heavy lacquer checking to the rear of the neck, as can be seen in the photos, but otherwise only minor play wear for its age. It is internally and externally original and includes its original case. This guitar has been given a full service & appraisal by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
