This 1994 Jumbo 55 was crafted in Bozeman, Montana, to commemorate Gibson’s storied 100-year legacy. Based on the original 1930s "Advanced Jumbo" and "J-55" blueprints, this anniversary edition captures the raw power and sophisticated aesthetics that defined the "Golden Era" of acoustic guitar building. Limited to only 100 ever produced, this particular instrument is number 80.
The Jumbo 55 is renowned for its sheer volume and tonal depth. Featuring a solid Sitka Spruce top and premium solid Mahogany back and sides, this instrument delivers a thunderous low-end balanced alongside a crisp, articulate treble response. The 'advanced' X-bracing provides the extra resonance and grow; that Gibson aficionados seek, making it a formidable choice for both heavy strumming and intricate finger picking.
True to its anniversary status, the guitar features elegant appointments including a multi-bound body, a distinctive moustache bridge with individual pearl inlays, the classic script Gibson logo (pearl inlaid) and the 'Centennial Special' plaque on the back of the 'stairstep' headstock. The neck features a comfortable V profile and a Bound Rosewood fingerboard with mother-of-pearl dot inlays.
This 1994 example is in excellent condition, showing only light finish checking and minimal play wear, which leads us to believe this guitar has been meticulously cared for.
Includes the original Gibson 100th Anniversary hardshell case and certificate.
As with all our instruments, this guitar has been given a full service and appraisal by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
