Dobro resonators have long been regarded as some of the most important and recognisable instruments in the development of American slide and bluegrass music, alongside National. Following Gibson’s acquisition of the Dobro brand in the early 1990s, production continued with a range of single cone models that maintained the core design principles of the original instruments while incorporating modern manufacturing approaches.

This 1994 Dobro DM33 S is a factory built single cone resonator featuring a chrome plated brass body and National style biscuit bridge and cone system, fitted from new. It also incorporates the DM33’s distinctive hybrid soundwell design, with a removable plywood ring allowing conversion to a spider bridge setup if required, reflecting the model’s flexible construction.

This example features the sandblasted 'sailboat' design variation, a decorative motif applied to the chrome body. It is fitted with a rosewood fingerboard, dot position markers, and a traditional round neck design suited to standard playing rather than squareneck slide. The biscuit bridge and cone setup provides strong projection and a direct, focused response typical of National style resonators.

This guitar is in all original condition, with no structural repairs noted. The bridge section of the coverplate shows evidence of a previous dent, but this does not affect functionality. The original case is included.

As with all our instruments, this guitar has been given a full service and appraisal by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty. This guitar also includes its original case.
