Guild’s late-'80s electric lineup included some standout instruments, and some rather unusual ones, and in our opinion the Nightbird II ranks among the most luxurious models from this era of Guild Guitars. Built at the Westerly, RI factory between 1987 and 1989, the Nightbird II took the core concept of the original Nightbird and elevated it with high-end appointments, premium materials, and a level of craftsmanship that rivals boutique instruments.
This 1988 Guild Nightbird II features a chambered mahogany body with a carved figured maple top as an additional option for the model. This combination offers a warm, resonant tone with excellent clarity and sustain, with a sleek single-cutaway design and particularly prominent maple grain. Visually, it’s every bit a high-end Guild, with full body, neck, and headstock binding, elegant 7-layer purfling, and a bound ebony fingerboard with slotted diamond inlays. The gold hardware and ornate headstock detailing add to its upscale feel. This model is fitted with a set of EMG pickups from the factory, with a phase switch for added versatility. Other features include Grover Rotomatic tuners and the signature bound pickguard.
This guitar is in excellent, all original condition, and includes a period hard case.
