First introduced in 1986, this 1989 Fender Heavy Metal Stratocaster is a wonderful example of an unusual Fender guitar from the late '80s. Initially an MIJ model, at some point in mid 1989, production would move to the USA although initially it would be Japanese components assembled in the Corona, CA factory. This 1989 example features a Japanese made neck and body from what we can tell, but also includes a Fender USA neck plate. The body is set up with a HSS pickup configuration, with a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge position, along with two single coil pickups, a 5 way selector, and a coil split mini toggle switch. The electrical components in the wiring loom all appear to be MIJ spec, and a second mini toggle switch has been added been added the bypasses the volume and tone circuit while in the bridge position. The body is finished in a very '80s Ice Blue colour, and the Maple neck features a 17" radius along with the iconic large logo 'Strat' headstock design.
