The Gibson Victory series, made for only two short years between 1981 and 1983, represented a bold departure from Gibson’s traditional designs, hoping to gain a share of the growing 'Super Strat' market of the 1980s. Designed by Tim Shaw, both the Victory MV2 dual humbucker model and the MVX HSH model featured Maple bodies with bolt on Maple necks, rosewood fingerboards, and a distinctive offset Strat style body shape. Although discontinued after just a few years, the Gibson Victory series has gained a cult following among collectors and players, and has recently been reissued by Gibson in 2024.
This 1982 Gibson Victory appears to have spent the majority of its life being used as a test bed for customisation, and is currently fitted with a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails stacked humbucker in the neck position, with a more traditional humbucker in the bridge position. A newer pickguard has also been fitted, and the body has been routed for a Kahler tremolo bridge.
