During the golden era of Japanese guitar manufacturing, Tokai’s "Springy Sound" series set a benchmark for vintage replication that left the rest of the industry scrambling to catch up. This 1980 ST-60 is a premium, higher-tier model from that legendary production run, beautifully finished in a vibrant and iconic Candy Apple Red.
Stepping up from the ST-50, the ST-60 model offers upgraded appointments and an even higher level of selection in its materials. It features a resonant, contoured body paired with a gorgeous one-piece Maple neck carved to a highly comfortable, period-correct soft 'V' profile that transitions smoothly into a 'C' as you move up the fretboard. The striking Candy Apple Red finish has aged beautifully over the last four decades.
The true magic of the ST-60 lies under the single-ply white pickguard. This model is factory-equipped with a trio of Tokai's legendary "E" stamped single-coil pickups. Highly prized by tone purists, these pickups utilize vintage accurate formvar wire to deliver a remarkably authentic mid-50s voice, boasting a glassy, bell-like top-end chime, a hollow, percussive midrange, and a tight, snappy bass response.
This 1980 example is in excellent original condition with the only real wear of note being a light scratch around the spring plate on the back.
