Introduced in 1962, the Gibson Dove was designed as a high-end square-shouldered dreadnought, complementing the Hummingbird and sharing its decorative aesthetic. This 1977 Gibson Dove represents the mid-1970s production period, offering strong tone, clear projection, and the distinctive character associated with vintage Gibson acoustics.
Constructed with a spruce top and cherry-stained maple back and sides, it produces a brighter, more articulate sound compared to the Hummingbird’s warmer tone. The neck has a slightly fuller profile than late 1960s examples, providing a comfortable and balanced playing feel.
Key features include the later non-adjustable ‘moustache’ bridge design, Schaller style Gibson branded tuners, split parallelogram pearl fingerboard inlays, and the signature engraved pickguard with dove motif.
This example remains in excellent condition with light cosmetic wear consistent with age. It is both internally and externally original and is complete with its original hard case, and has previously had a neck reset.
This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
