First introduced in 1963, the Gibson Firebird was a forward thinking design that pushed traditional guitar construction into more experimental territory, with its reverse body shape and neck through construction setting it apart from anything else in the market at the time. Reissued in various forms throughout the 1970s, Gibson’s Bicentennial era instruments reflected the company’s continued use of classic designs during the mid 1970s period.

This 1976 Gibson Firebird Bicentennial is finished in sunburst and presents as a strong example of the model from this period. It retains its original pickups and wiring loom, with the electronics remaining correct and undisturbed. The potentiometers are original, with full date codes partially obscured, though the 1976 date remains visible.

The only hardware change appears to be the harmonica style bridge and bridge posts, which are consistent in age and appearance with the rest of the instrument and may well be period replacements. The other hardware is all original, including the Red white & blue Firebird logo guard found on these models. The guitar has also had a previous neck repair on the bass side of the nut, which does not appear to extend fully through the neck and presents as stable and solid.

As with all our vintage instruments, this guitar has been given a full service and appraisal by the luthier at the Vintage Instrument Workshop and is guaranteed for 2 years in line with our vintage instrument warranty.
