The Gibson Les Paul Deluxe first appeared in 1969, debuting alongside other Les Paul models that signalled a revival of the '50s-style single cutaway body. Initially released as Goldtop versions, the Deluxe was fitted with a pair of mini humbuckers reminiscent of the 'New York' style pickups found on earlier Epiphones. While these guitars didn’t quite match the mainstream popularity of the period’s more traditionally spec’d Les Paul Customs, the Deluxe has since earned cult status thanks to the distinctive voice of its mini humbuckers. This 1975 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop is a great example in arguably the models most sought after finish.
This guitar features a Mahogany pancake body along with a Mahogany neck and Rosewood fingerboard with pearloid block inlays. The mini humbuckers, stamped 'Williamsville' and therefore presumably produced in the recently Norlin acquired Moog Music factory in NY, offer a clarity and dynamic range that sets them apart from both humbuckers and single coils, offering a unique range of tones. The chrome hardware is present and correct as was standard for this model, along with the cream pick guard.
This guitar is in very good condition, with only very minor play wear to speak of. The Gold lacquer finish is in good condition and has not suffered from the finish turning slightly green as happens with some examples when excessively worn, although there is a small patch of wear to the left of the bridge pickup. This guitar is internally and externally original, with the exception of a replacement set of double line Kluson tuners, and a newer set of saddle adjustment screws. The Pat No. mini hum buckers, Nashville bridge and tailpiece and all other hardware are original and correct. The original pots date to the 35th week of 1975.
