Introduced in 1960, the Gibson Hummingbird soon became one of the company’s most recognisable square shouldered acoustic guitars, known for its warm tone, decorative styling and strong presence on both stage and in the studio. This 1975 example reflects the character of Gibson production during the mid 1970s, offering the rich and rounded sound long associated with vintage Hummingbird models.
Built with a spruce top and mahogany back and sides, it produces a warm low end with a focused midrange and a smooth, mellow top end. The neck has the slightly fuller profile typical of this period, providing a comfortable feel that works well for both strumming and fingerstyle playing.
Period correct specifications include the fixed rosewood bridge used throughout the 1970s, Grover tuners, double parallelogram fingerboard inlays and the distinctive engraved Hummingbird pickguard that has become one of the model’s most recognisable features.
This guitar is in very good condition with light cosmetic wear consistent with age, and some shrinkage to the pickguard. It is both internally and externally original and free from any repairs, and includes a period hard case.
This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
