First introduced in 1959 along with the 330 and 345 models, the Gibson ES-355 was initially introduced as the companies top of the line thinline semi hollow electric guitar, and this 1973 ES-355 is a fantastic example of a later vintage iteration of the model. Constructed from a Maple body with an Ebony fingerboard and a Mahogany neck, with a rich Walnut lacquer finish that sets it apart from the majority of ES-355's from this period. With block pearl fret markings and the classic split parallelogram headstock inlay present on these top of the line semi-hollow models, along with gold hardware and the original gold Grovers, the ES-355 was the most ornate a guitar in the thin line Gibson range at the time.

This guitar is in very good condition with only minor signs of play wear and patina visible on the finish to the front and rear of the body and the rear of the neck. The Walnut finish is darker in hue than others we have seen, with a striking grain to the front and back of the body. The original Patent No. humbuckers are present and correct along with the Varitone control, with a wonderfully balanced tone that pairs warmth and clarity in equal measure and offers plenty of distinct tonal options. Both covers have been desoldered at some point in the guitars life. The pots and electronics are original, with 3 enclosed obscuring the dates, and one showing a 17th week of 1973 date code. The guitar had previously been incorrectly converted to mono output, limiting the ability to use the volume and tone controls properly and leaving the pickups out of phase. Our luthiers have correct this, with the guitar now returned to factory specs and the controls working as they should. The tuners, vibrato tailpiece and bridge are original and in great condition. This guitar has also been refretted.

As with all vintage instruments, this 1972 ES-335 has been given a full service and appraisal by the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty.
