Introduced in 1969 as part of Gibson’s return to the classic ’50s single cutaway Les Paul design, the Les Paul Deluxe stood apart through its use of mini humbuckers adapted from earlier Epiphone “New York” pickups. Although initially overshadowed by the popularity of the Les Paul Custom, the Deluxe has since earned a strong following thanks to its distinctive tonal character and its important place within Gibson’s early ’70s catalogue. This 1972 Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop is an excellent example from the era, finished in the model’s most iconic and sought after colour.

Constructed with a mahogany pancake body, mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard with pearloid block inlays, it features many of the hallmark specifications associated with mid ’70s Les Pauls. The factory fitted mini humbuckers offer a brighter and more focused response than full sized humbuckers, while still retaining plenty of warmth and power, giving the Deluxe a voice all of its own. The pickups also retain the embossed logo covers used on Gibson electric guitars during 1972.

This guitar is in very good condition overall, showing only minimal signs of play wear. The Gold lacquer finish remains in excellent shape and has avoided the green discolouration sometimes seen on heavily worn examples. Internally and externally, the guitar appears original throughout, retaining its Pat No. mini humbuckers, ABR 1 bridge, tailpiece and all other correct hardware. The original potentiometers date to the 11th week of 1972, and the guitar also includes its original case.

As with all our vintage instruments, this guitar has been given a full service and appraisal by the luthier at the Vintage Instrument Workshop and is guaranteed for 2 years in line with our vintage instrument warranty.
