Launched in 1947, the Gibson J-50 was initially a natural top version of the companies flagship J-45 model. The square shoulder design was introduced by Gibson in 1969, giving this model its distinctive shape as the company gradually moved away from the round shoulder design of previous decades. Built from spruce and mahogany with a set mahogany neck, this 1971 Gibson J-50 incorporates the double X bracing that Gibson introduced at the start of the 1970s. Like many Gibsons from this era, it delivers a full-bodied yet focused tone, responding beautifully to both open chords and fingerstyle playing. It also features a belly-down pinless rosewood bridge, a rosewood fingerboard, and a teardrop style celluloid pickguard.

This guitar is in very good condition, with the kind of play wear and patina to the lacquer finish that you would expect from an instrument of its age. It has previously had the X braces re-glued and some top cracks professionally repairs, but is otherwise free from any major repair work, and includes a non original case.

This guitar has been given a full service and appraisal by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
