Over the years, Epiphone guitars of the 1960's have developed a folklore of their own. Built in the same factory as their Gibson equivalent models, they share many features with these guitars, although subtle design changes and undeniably catchier model names such as 'Cortez' & 'Frontier' have give them a cult following of their own outside of their Gibson connection.

This wonderful 1966 Epiphone Texan is a fantastic example of a mid '60s Gibson made Epiphone acoustic. The Texan was the Epiphone branded version of Gibsons J-45 acoustic flat top, round shoulder dreadnought model. The Texan features a Spruce top with Mahogany back and sides, X braced construction, with an open, balanced tone with plenty of clarity. This particular example is extremely resonant and woody, with a crystal clear top end and tight bass responses.

Featuring the original belly up bridge and adjustable saddles - This guitar is particularly open and dynamically responsive, with the kind of balanced low end, mids and highs that only the best Epiphone acoustics have. The 25.5" scale length of Epiphone acoustics no doubt adds to this tonal character, and helps to distinguish them from their Gibson counterparts.

This particular example has had some minor changes. At some point in it's life the lacquer on the neck has been sanded back and the tuners have been replaced, once with non original (showing minor signs on the back of the headstock) and more recently with a period correct gold 'three on a plate' set. Like many of these models, the Epiphone 'Slashed C' logo is missing from the pickguard. aside from those minor changes, the guitar remains in original condition, with no cracks or repair work.

With all the patina and mojo you'd expect from a great 60's Texan! This guitar also includes its original red lined case.

As with all vintage instruments, this Texan has been given a full service and appraisal by the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
