Hoboken, New Jersey made Guild guitars are some of the most overlooked in the vintage market, with their contribution to the mid-to-late '60s pop boom often being under appreciated This 1965 Guild Starfire XII is a fantastic example of a mid-'60s electric 12-string, offering rich, chimey tones and superb craftsmanship that rival anything from the same era.
Designed to compete with the Gibson ES-335-12 released in 1964, the Starfire XII features a fully hollow, thinline maple body with dual cutaways, with this model featuring the rare emerald green finish. What really makes this guitar sing is the pair of original Guild humbuckers, known for their clear, articulate sound that brings out the natural shimmer of the 12-string format without ever sounding harsh. Other vintage appointments include the original 'G' shield trapeze tailpiece, Grover tuners, and the distinctive Chesterfield headstock inlay. Officially added to the pricelist in October of 1965, available in sunburst and cherry lacquer, this 1965 Starfire XII may well be a very early example of a custom order model.
This guitar is in very good condition, with only the most minor amounts of patina and wear to the finish, binding and headstock veneer. The electronics, finish and hardware are all original and in full working order, and this guitar retains its original case.
This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty.
