Originally introduced as Fender's mid '60s flagship student model, the Fender Mustang has become a favourite of players of all styles due to its comfortable short scale design and its unique sound, due in part to the pickup phase switching only found on this model.
This 1964 Mustang is a great example of a player grade 'L' series Mustang from the earliest production run of the model. This guitar features the standard short scale 24" scale length as opposed to the even smaller 22 1/2" scale, and a smaller 'A' neck width. The neck date is NOV '64, with the original pots dating to the 40th week of 1964 and the grey bottom pickups dating to August 1964. The 3 ply white pickguard and all other hardware is also original and in great condition, with the exception of the tremolo plate screws which are newer. The maple neck features a veneer Rosewood board and slab alder body.
This guitar has had a Dakota Red style refin over what appears to be the original red finish, which is visible on a small patch of buckle wear to the rear of the guitars body.
As with all vintage instruments, this 1964 Fender Mustang has been given a full service and appraisal by the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty.
