First introduced in 1959, the Gibson ES-330 was developed as a fully hollow counterpart to the newly released ES-335, sharing a similar double cutaway body shape but without the centre block construction. This gave the ES-330 a lighter, more resonant feel and a distinctive tonal character that set it apart from Gibson’s semi hollow models. While often overshadowed by the ES-335, early ES-330s have become increasingly appreciated for their warmth, responsiveness, and simplicity.
This 1962 Gibson ES-330T is a particularly interesting example, finished in sunburst and retaining a number of features more commonly associated with late 1961 production. Although the serial number dates the guitar to 1962, the dot inlays and absence of the later wired bridge suggest it was likely assembled towards the very end of 1961 before being serialled and shipped in early 1962, the same year the dot neck specification was phased out.
The fully hollow construction gives the guitar a lively, open response, while the original P90 pickup delivers the bright yet rounded tone that has made early ES-330s so well regarded. The pickup, wiring loom, and hardware all appear original and correct, with the instrument remaining internally and externally original throughout. This guitar also includes a period case.
As with all vintage instruments, this 1962 Gibson ES-330T has been given a full service and appraisal by the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
