The Fender Stratocaster is without doubt the most iconic guitar in the history of rock and roll, with vintage examples now becoming more and more sought after by players and collectors alike.
This 1962 Fender Stratocaster is a great example of a factory custom colour pre-CBS Fender Stratocaster. Constructed from an Alder body, the Fiesta Red finish has been sprayed without a clear coat applied over the top, leading to a heavier build up of finish in the control cavities and neck pocket, consistent with other non-clear coat examples we have seen. There is no paint visible in any pinholes on the body, again consistent with an original finish. The Maple neck is in good condition, with some obvious play wear to the rear. The original slab Rosewood fretboard features clay dot fret inlays which is correct for the period, although the fretboard appears to have been removed to accommodate a truss rod repair at some point. The neck has also been refretted. The body features the original mint green pick guard, along with a set of excellent sounding black bottom single coil pickups.
This guitar is in very good condition, with the Fiesta Red finish having play wear and patina commensurate with age. The neck stamp reads March 62 B, while the two original tone pots date to the 18th week of 1962 (3046218), with the volume pot having been replaced at some point. The pickups are the original black bottom single coils, with all cloth wiring appearing present and correct, though the neck and bridge appear to have been rewound at some point. The selector switch, tremolo bridge, tuners and all other hardware are original and correct for the period.
